York School, May 4, 1963

A groundbreaking ceremony for the first unit of the new campus on Saturday, May 4, 1963 at the current site of York School in Monterey. York School is currently celebrating their fifty-year anniversary. The school started in Pacific Grove in 1959 and moved to the present location in 1964. At the ceremony were Bishop James A. Pike, Sen. Fred Farr and Lewis Fenton along with many other local dignitaries.

Great White Shark, 1959

Eight year-old Scott Lemon mugs for the camera as he looks over a ten-foot, five hundred pound great white shark that was caught by his father Jerry Lemon on August 24, 1959 off Lover's Point in Pacific Grove from their party boat "Sea Otter".

Samuel F.B. Morse, 1969

Samuel F.B. Morse pictured here in his Pebble Beach home in February 1969 working on his watercolor paintings. Samuel Finley Breese Morse was born on July 19, 1885 in Newtonville, Mass. He was the great nephew of the inventor and painter of the same name. Morse is credited with founding Del Monte Properties and building the Del Monte Lodge. He built the Pebble Beach Golf Links along with three other golf courses in Pebble Beach. Morse who a short time later, died after this photo was taken on May 10, 1969. (Photo: Monterey County Herald)
