Betty Ford, June 5, 1976



Mrs. Betty Ford attends the Merienda at the Memory Garden in Monterey on Saturday, June 5, 1976. Mrs. Ford was in Monterey campaigning for her husband just three days before the Tuesday Primary. During her three-hour stay, Mrs. Ford wished Monterey a happy birthday, lunched with friends at the Beach Club in Pebble Beach and delighted friends at a gathering at a ranch in Corral de Tierra. Col. Allen Griffin, 1970


Colonel Robert Allen Griffin (1893 - 1981) and his wife, Hester Hyde Hately Griffin, former owners of the Monterey Peninsula Herald, in their landscaped garden in Pebble Beach in 1970. Col Griffin, commanded Company F, 364th Infantry Division, during World War I. He rejoined the Army during World War II and participated in the war in Normandy, Brittany and Belgium. Fourth of July 1958


Fort Ord's military personnel march past the official reviewing stand on Del Monte avenue, leading off today's colorful July 4th Parade in Seaside. Jolly Rogue Fire, June 27, 1976


The Jolly Rogue restaurant fire on Sunday, June 27, 1976. 200 patrons and staff escaped injury from the fast moving fire that was reported at approximately 7:40 p.m. When the first engines \arrived on scene smoke and flames were pouring from the roof. Monterey, Seaside, Pacific Grove and Carmel Valley fire departments responded to the entrance of Monterey Wharf No. 2 Businesses also suffering damage were the Monterey Harbor Masters Office, Monterey Yacht Center, San Martin Wine Tasting Room and the Harvey Kilpatrick Insurance Company. Fire investigators first estimates were $500,000 in damages.
