  1. I was there ..my faith wasn't on fire like it is now ...but amazingly I remember his visit and certain moments of it...and I thank God that I got a chance to see a pope of his church in my lifetime

  2. Pope John Paul II was canonized this past Sunday April 27, 2014 day of the Divine Mercy. We attended the mass at Laguna Seca back on September 17, 1987. We took some pictures. Manuel I wanted to ask you if you attended this mass by any chance and if so, did you take any pictures?

    1. That week I got a letter from a friend, who said he missed a fog fcst, upsetting the boss. I told him, it was all relative. “You ticked off a Colonel, here we ticked off The Pope!

  5. I volunteered--spent months working on mailings and then later as an on-site volunteer. I am not Roman Catholic and was, honestly, rather anti-Catholic but I was interested in the political impact so I wanted to be there. Indeed, I WAS! Front row, center at Laguna: I could swear the man locked eyes with me?! His charisma was incredible. Ironically, I was first in and the first out (streets were empty as I drove home ahead of the subsequent traffic jam that lasted many hours) so I was home in Carmel in time to see his helicopter fly overhead en route to the Mission. And I was blown away--one of the most moving experiences of my (now) 70+ years. I'm still skeptical about the Roman Catholic faith but am a admirer (major understatement!) of the late Pope John Paul, his Homily, politics, and his entourage (they really knew their audience). The whole experience was close to life changing.
