Looking over Del Monte Blvd. and Casa Verde Elementary School in Monterey in September of 1965 that shows the old Norwalk gas station and what appears to be a fire burning on the Naval Post Graduate School campus. (Monterey County Herald archives)
Comparing the camera angle to a map, it appears the fire is on the southeast corner of the NPS campus, or possibly on Fremont Street in the vicinity of what is now the Hyatt Regency, known as the Mark Thomas in 1965. Note: 1965 was 2 years before the freeway replaced Fremont by the NPS.
